Editor's Essay: How a natural and right desire to serve others can be used by the false self to hide from its most important duties.

The purpose of this very short writing is to alert you to a very important subject, already discussed elsewhere in the WG site.

In “the 500 tape-recorded messages from the other side” article, we learned of an entire class of many millions over there who are dysfunctional.

They walk the streets of Summerland, are friendly, will smile at you, and would offer assistance if you were to need it; however, they’re materialistic in their thinking and, spiritually speaking, are quite insane.

Those of this wayward and psychologically off-base group fancy themselves advanced teachers. They love to talk about charity and service. They want to “help.”

But, as discussed in the referenced article, they hide from themselves, their true selves, in this god-talk concerning service, as they leave begging their most vital duties before God.

This is a large subject, and cannot be readdressed here. You’ll want to read about “the insane 500.” It’s one of the very most important writings in the WG collection.
